ADQL/_SkyNode for theo"> Use case: ADQL/SkyNode for theory
Description
Astrophysicists doing simulations wish to publish their
results in a VO compatible manner, in this case they
wish to make their database of simulation catalogues
available for querying via the VO query language,
publishing it as a
SkyNode.
What is required is a specification that includes such
datasets and a query language that allows the specifics
of theoetical datasets.
The datasets will include mock catalogues of observational objects
such as galaxies, stars, but also of "unibservable" objects such
as clusters extracted from N-body simulations.
Theoretical physicist wishing to publish results of simulations
producing mock catalogues.
A
SkyNode for theory datasets and a VO query language that
supports peculiarities of theory datasets.
- VOQL working group
- database "wrapper"
- Standards available to describe the tables/columns containing theory data (to be decided what is required in detail).
- Simulaiton is run, mock catalogues are calculated
- Mock catalogues are stored in relational database
- A web service is written that exposes this database as an IVOA compatible skynode and supports querying by VO query language
- Service is registered in IVOA compatible registry
- One can query registries to discover services wrapping theory databases
- One can query these services for metadata according to VO standard protocol
- One can query the database with VO standard query language
Examples of existing theory query services
Requirements on IVOA working goups
- VOQL: ADQL/SkyNode specifications must support databases containing simulation data, foreign keys
- Registry must support metadata distinguishing theory sky nodes from observational ones
- UCD must support theory phenomenology:
- Apps?: would be nice to have an application that allows me to assign UCD/Units inforation to result of free-form SQL query where possible.

This area should be used for refinement of the above document. If you want to ask questions or start a dialogue with the author,
please use the theory mailing list.
Need to check that appropriate UCDs are available to describe the columns.
